Hey there!

      I am Anthony Smith ("Tony"), and I have been fascinated with photography ever since I was a little kid and watched the magic of a photograph coming to life in a home darkroom.

     My first camera purchase (a Yashica FX-3 film camera - remember film???) allowed me to explore the world around me in a way I never did before.  Soon after that I began to capture images of my other passion - sports!  Even before my days of competitive sports were over, I was taking my camera gear with me to my track meets and other sporting events at my college.  Later, as I began coaching sports - photography, as well as video - became a welcome tool to re-enforce the skills taught in practice. It was also a way to document achievements and help create lasting memories. 

  Several years have passed since then, but my enchantment with capturing the beauty in the world continues to this day.  In retrospect, I shy away from using the term "self-taught" because of all the influences that shaped how I approach photography.  From the years of National Geographic, Time and Sports Illustrated magazine subscriptions, to the countless books and tutorials I've purchased, received as gifts or checked out from the library, to the encouragement of  my local photography club, I continue to learn from and be amazed by the level of skill of so many of the well-known and not so well known photographic artists in the world.
